Chinese Movie Stars and the Compensation Debate

Chinese Movie Stars are among the most bankable soft power assets of the Chinese government, but the debate about compensation is growing in China. Aside from the question of what’s fair and reasonable, there are also some issues of bad optics. We will look at the latest compensation scandal, and the Chinese government’s response.

Huang Xiaoming

One of the most well-known Chinese movie stars, Huang Xiaoming, is also a model and singer. A graduate of the Beijing Film Academy’s Performance Institute, Huang first rose to prominence in 2001 when he was cast as Emperor Wu of Han in the popular TV series The Prince of Han Dynasty.

Huang is a popular actor in the mainland, and his burgeoning career has made him an international star. His movie roles include the acclaimed hit series Shanghai Bund, the Ip Man film franchise, and numerous charting singles. He also married Angelababy, a Hong Kong singer, and the couple were featured in numerous international media.

Liu Haoran

Liu Haoran is a rising star in the Chinese movie industry. Born in Pingdingshan, Henan province, he has been residing in Beijing since the age of twelve. In 2014, he made his acting debut with the film “Beijing Love Story” and was nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the 21st Beijing College Student Film Festival. The following year, he became the youngest cast member of the Hunan TV show “Real Men.” He was subsequently admitted to the Central Academy of Drama.

After starring in several films, Liu Haoran is now a household name. His role in the acclaimed drama Detective Chinatown (2015) with co-star Wang Baoqiang catapulted him to stardom. His role as detective Qin Feng helped the movie become a worldwide success. The movie has since been adapted into a sequel, which is now the sixth biggest hit in Chinese box office history. The film has grossed over $544 million worldwide.

Wen Zhang

After graduating from the Central Academy of Drama, Wen Zhang began a career in acting and has since starred in numerous TV dramas. He has appeared in The Sorcerer and the White Snake and You Are Smiling, two of the most popular TV dramas in China. His breakout role in the 2009 movie Struggle made him a star in his native country.

Wen Zhang’s career in film started when he was just 16. As a youngster, he was already working in theaters. By the time he was a teenager, his first movie was an acclaimed success, and he went on to win a Golden Horse Award for it. This film also received a prestigious Grand Prix from the Cannes Film Festival.

Gong Li

You’ve probably seen Gong Li’s movies. She’s a rising star in China’s film industry. But who is she and how does she measure up to other international movie stars? The actress has a great deal to offer as a leading actress. She has had roles in films that range from romantic comedy to action movies.

Gong Li was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, and raised in Jinan, Shandong Province. At a young age, she began to sing and dance. When she was in her second grade, she was invited to sing children’s songs at the Jinan People’s Broadcasting Station. She also became a member of her school’s literature and art team.

Liu Yifeng

Li Yifeng is a Chinese actor. He is the star of the upcoming suspense crime film, “Evil Minds,” scheduled for release in 2017. Li was also cast in Guan Hu’s upcoming film, “800 Heroes.” Filming for the movie is slated to start in January 2017. Li is also an ambassador for the Spring Bud Project, an initiative of the China Children and Teenagers Foundation that helps girls’ education in poverty-stricken areas.

Li Yifeng is also an accomplished musician. He has contributed songs to the Yifeng’s Love Letter and That Song albums and was named No. 3 on the Forbes China Celebrity List in 2015 and 2017. In 2016, he was ranked as the most searched artist in Baidu.

Shen Teng

Shen Teng is a Chinese movie star, director, and comedian. He is a veteran of both the small screen and the big screen. His comedy is often paired with a witty storyline. In his movies, Shen Teng acts with a mix of satire and wit.

Shen Teng has won numerous awards for his performances in Chinese movies. He has starred in such films as Never Say Die, Heart for Heaven, Hello Mr. Billionaire, Pegasus, Crazy Alien, and more. His films have a lot of references to Chinese popular culture. Many of these films feature cameos and depictions of popular Chinese stars of the time.

Liu Shishi

Liu Shishi made her TV debut on Chinese drama series The Moon and the Wind in 2005. She then enrolled at the Beijing Dance Academy, where she received training in acting and dance. After graduating, Liu signed with Tangren Media and began a transition from dancer to actress. Her breakthrough role was as Wallace Huo in The Vigilantes in Masks. She received a Best Actress nomination for Brotherhood of Blades.

After graduating from the Beijing Dance Academy, Liu Shishi performed in ballet. She made her acting debut in 2005, in a drama series titled “The Moon and the Wind”, where she performed a segment from Swan Lake. Her next role won her critical acclaim, in the time-travel drama “Scarlet Heart.” In this film, she played Ruoxi, a contemporary woman living in the Qing Dynasty.
